A Different Desire
by Terrie Relf

WANT YOU
but not in the usual way
of flesh-to-flesh

come-let us peel away skin
drain blood and lymph
gather and discard
sinew, muscle, bone
--as these are barriers to our union

I need you
but not in the usual way
of mind-to-mind

come--let us transcend ego
label thoughts and concepts
recognize and dispel
passion, agression ignorance
--as these are barriers to our union

I am you
but not in the usual way

come--let us merge sans body, sans mind
exhale hope and fear
expectation and disappointment

--as there are no barriers to our union
