Winter Lover
by A.J.Heard

I am desiring winter's muted voice
laying cool hands of healing
on emotion worn nerves.

Her song, Gregorian chant
leading me piper like
through corridors
of somnolent levels,
a purification of the senses
preparing me for the entrance of the Lord of this season,
my lover of the dark time
Morpheus
holding me as blood thickens
breathing slows
thoughts curl back upon themselves
reflecting, multiplying in an endless spiral.

Layer after layer
truths uncovered, before questions barely asked
only to be left behind in the dark of the past
as I settle deeper and deeper
into myself, my soul.

Primordial sludge
I hit bottom
surrounded by crimson tints of longing
purple splashes of passion
sharp black edges of pain
the warm golden glow of summers longing
and over all
the pale, pale ashen grey of dead dreams.

I am desiring Winter's muted voice
Laying cool hands of healing
on my emotion worn nerves
and Lord Morpheus cradles me
as my soul follows piper like threads
of Gregorian chants through somnolent corridors
to springs bright release.
