Epitaph of A Love
by A.J.Heard
If I could stop my waking mind
from caressing
past words
phrases so full of possibilities
"But what happens if we like each other"
So sweet in their tentativeness
in the unspoken yearning.
Black nights
no one in the world but us two
as we speak passion
and lust overflows
till I think the heat
might melt the receiver
sending it flowing over me
in a scalding rain
like your words
"Give it to me, come for me"
covering me in
wanton desire.
Dreams of meeting finally
warmth and kisses
lust and passion
love to blossom into something more
maybe . . . .
Now
all the possibilities
future dreams
going, gone
all into nothing for you.
Never to meet
hands never to touch
kisses
withering into bitter tears.
Doors closed
like the stone doors
on the halls of magic.
My wizard, my Prince
never, never.
Stars fall
darkness reins
the Dark Queen
abdicates her crown
that kingdom
no longer hers.
I will not come on that Butterfly,
never will I stand
in a valley silvered by the moon
standing naked
before the alter rock
a willing gift for you.
The ego tastes
burnt ashes
all in tones of grey and black
but deep inside
the heart is steady
never a faltered beat
the tears won't come to relieve me
though I feel the pain
as if all is waiting
for one more stroke of the axe.
Why won't my heart let go
and wash me clean in forgetfulness?
